Yesterday PMDG released a minor update for the 747-400, and 777LR/F. Accompanying this was some information on bringing the 737NGX, and 777W to P3D V4. These updates are minor and mostly concern the installers. However they do fix one problem known to cause a Crash-To-Desktop, as well as add new features to take advantage of the standard capabilities of Windows Installers.
The forum admits that the installers used by PMDG were creating issues with their product. Whilst not going into detail they did mention that the installation process used by the installers has its root in the original PMDG 737 that was released in 2003. “It quickly became apparent to us that a significant percentage of our customer problems were being created by our own installation mechanism.” Because of this PMDG has spent the past ten days making adjustments to their installation method and adding enhancements. On the 1st of June they release a update to the FSX and P3D V3/V4 installers for the 747-400 and 777-200 LR/F.
These Updates include
- Elimination of a sound-device related CTD that was affecting some users.
- (For P3D v4) rolled back the dynamic lighting enhancements one version in order to eliminate some problems that customers were seeing with last week’s update.
- Updated installer
PMDG would like to note the exact improvements to the installers. Firstly they say that should you choose to download these updates you should competently remove the existing version first. The new installers will do a much better job of utilizing standard windows installation capabilities. This will allow you to run a Repair on a existing installation. They will also do a Health Check on key prerequisites that support activating, interfacing, and operation of the product.
Additionally PMDG states that with this out of the way they will be getting back to work on the NGX and 77W. However it will have to wait until after the holiday. They will pick up where they left off on the Wednesday after the 4th of July. Hopefully they will get those product working very shortly.
One final note for users who purchased the above mention PMDG products from Aerosoft. You will need to get the Updates from them. It will take some time but PMDG anticipates they will have the new versions up on Monday.
