PMDG Cease Development for FSX/P3Dv3

Following on from the earlier post left by Robert from PMDG, a new post on the new forums has surfaced. Although not exciting news about a new project or a sneak peak at what’s to come, instead, it was confirmation of something we all expected to happen eventually.

PMDG has confirmed that effective immediately, both FSX and P3Dv3 development will cease. What that means is that no future products will be released for the platforms. That’s not to say that bug fixes and occasional updates won’t be released – it will depend on the workflow and what can be resolved within the confines of a 32-bit platform.

The news comes after PMDG said that because of “rapidly declining customer adoption rates and increased complexity supporting these outdated platforms” it is in the interest of economics, the community and also the efficiency of development.

It was made clear that future development will now shift towards Prepar3D V4.4 and above, which will include the upcoming NG3. Interestingly, Robert made mention that development endeavours will focus on “possibly Prepar3D V5“.

Both FSX and P3Dv3 products will continue to be sold through PMDG and be supported in the forums and by the support team. PMDG are currently evaluating “End-of-Life” support for P3Dv3 due to the low adoption rates and the challenges in maintaining compatibility. The final decision will be made later this year.

As for X-Plane users, there was intentionally no information regarding the platform at this time. It was said that with legacy platform support no longer required and development work

Finally, this forum post spoke about the upcoming PMDG 747 Queen of the Skies II Update. Sadly, Robert admitted that he is still trying to solve an issue that came up during testing, but he’s working to fix it as soon as possible. Once the testers have approved, the release of the update will be in our hands.

You can follow the action on the new PMDG forums. Do note, you will need to sign up to see the post.
