Orbx developer Marcus Nyberg took to the Orbx forum to share some updates regarding the upcoming Stockholm-Arlanda scenery for MSFS.
Stockholm-Arlanda Airport (ESSA/ARN) is the primary international airport serving Sweden’s capital and largest city. The airport is a major hub for Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle but also is an important focus city for low-cost carriers Eurowings and Ryanair. The airport initially opened with two runways; however, an additional runway (01R/19L) was opened in 2003 to accommodate the airport’s growth. In addition to 27 million passengers that transited through the airport before the pandemic, Stockholm-Arlanda is home to a significant cargo operation.
They are two big takeaways from this latest forum update. First, Jetstream Designs, a familiar name on the Orbx store, has joined the project. Second, evident by the photo previews, the project’s progress is “moving forward quickly.” The team has been able to complete one terminal pier per week and anticipates completing terminal 5 before the end of November. Essentially, many of the airside buildings are nearing completion, leaving the less-time-consuming landside objects and miscellaneous buildings to be completed.
Furthermore, ground textures in this scenery should be a massive improvement over the current textures as Stockholm-Arlanda will feature ortho imagery with high-resolution mesh. Previews of the ground textures should be released in the coming weeks. Lastly, this scenery will include new custom GSE items, many of which were featured in the Malmö Airport update.
One note for P3D and X-Plane users, while Stockholm-Arlanda v2 has yet to be announced for those sims, the team may revisit a P3D/X-Plane version after the MSFS release. FSElite will continue to monitor the progress of the scenery and any additional previews that may be released.
