After revealing it during the 2019 Roadmap stream, Orbx has today confirmed that SODE has been implemented in seven of their airports today. The announcement thread, courtesy of Jarrad Marshell, had lots of details regarding the history and the updates available.
The first piece of information that came from the thread was that the team are sorry that it took so long to bring the technology to their products. Whilst many of their products used CTRL+J for the moving jetway, they knew it had many limitations. In the mean time, there was work on their own in-house solution, but after lengthy development and seeing how well SODE was working in other products, Orbx decided this was the best route to instead go down.
For those that don’t know, SODE (Sim Object Display Engine) is for more than just jetways. It’s a ‘plug-in’ system which developers can use to make more animations and other features possible. For example, SODE can also be used to animate windsocks at your favourite GA airports.
Without further delay, here are the seven airports that are now jetway ready from Orbx.
- Santa Barbara Airport
- Stockholm Arlanda
- San Diego Airport
- Dubrovnik
- MBS International Airport
- Idaho Falls Regional Airport
- Glacier Park International Airport
As for other airports, it was confirmed that there are still others in active development to make sure they work with SODE. Whilst Orbx worked on the most requested jetway airfields to begin with, there are still plenty of others that they are looking at from their catalogue. There isn’t a time frame on it all, but they are concious people are keen to test out the technology.
As for how to get it, it’s really simple: just update your product via FTX Central (version 3.3.4.4). There’s also no need to download SODE, as FTX Central V3 will install it for you should you have any of the above seven airports.
As mentioned, all of the above airports have been updated today. So you can install these new updates and fly immediately.
We will have a separate post detailing the major updates for the above airports.
You can follow all the information via the Orbx forum.
