Gaya Simulations, published by Orbx, has announced and released a Meribel (LFKX) scenery for X-Plane 11. Released as a DLC for their previous Courchevel (LFLJ), the scenery is a very accurate rendition of the small altiport and the village below. All landmarks immediately surrounding the airfield have been rendered in great details, such as the golf course, the village, ski lifts and other mountain sports equipment. The distinctive Meribel slopped runway – averaging 7%, but with up to 11% slope in the center – is also accurately rendered.
With this difficult runway comes a very challenging approach, the Meribel altiport hence requires a special rating for pilots who wish to land there. It can only park a few aircraft, and with one helicopter allowed at a time, airfield operations require tight adherence to the rules set by the operator. Pilots interested can take a look at the visual approach chart provided by the French aviation authorities.
Located in the French Alps, The Meribel ski resort is included in the wider “Trois Vallées” ski domain, considered one of the biggest in the world. Meribel and Courchevel are the two altiports serving the area.
Orbx Meribel is available for X-Plane 11 through Orbx Central for a fair price of $9.95 AUD. It is to be noted that it is required to own Courchevel (LFLJ) which cost $32.95 AUD, in order to be able to purchase Meribel DLC.
