Orbx has released Mackay Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Developed by newcomer Rob Byrne, Mackay Airport is the first new indie airport released for Australia in the new sim.
Despite being Rob’s debut airport release, there are plenty of features that highlight the powerful MSFS engine. There is a high level of detail in the custom 3D models, high resolution 15cm aerial imagery and custom ground details that are unique to Australian airports. The runways, taxiways and drainage channels across the airport are all terraformed to be as natural looking as possible and fit with the airport’s profile.
Known as the “Sugar Capital of Australia”, Mackay is around 1 hour and 20 minutes from Brisbane and is described as a “thriving mining and agricultural city with a growing tourism market“. The airport itself is a mid-sized airport that is capable of handling aircraft up to the size of an A320/B737.
