Orbx Publishes Brief 2021 Outlook

Orbx CEO Anna Cicognani has taken to the forums to provide a brief outlook on what the future of Orbx looks like for 2o21. To set your expectations at the start, no product announcements were made at this time, but some hints for the future were given in the statement shared.

Anna opens her message by highlighting the busy 2020 the entire team had. Releases such as Cityscape Sydney, Graz, Newcastle and the Canary Islands were all delivered by the internal teams, whilst airport such as Burbank, Malmo, Olbia and more were released by the indies team within the business.

As Orbx moves forward into 2021, many behind the scenes happenings have also been happening. Plenty of freshening up of the Orbx brand and marketing has been ongoing with all new marketing managers and digital design teams to make things clearer and keeping things simple. One such initiative was Orbx’s FlyJuly, which is due to happen again this year.

Of course, a post from Orbx regarding the future would be amiss without mentioning Microsoft Flight Simulator. When it first came out, the team didn’t know what customer habits would be. That said, Anna said they are happy with how things have worked out, despite the steep learning curve. In fact, it is confirmed that a partnership video between Microsoft and Orbx will be released later on in January highlighting how Orbx has been working with the new simulator. Whilst there has been a big focus on the new simulator, there will still be plenty of releases for X-Plane and Prepar3D from Orbx, including a new version of Essendon Airport (YMEN)

Aside from advances with marketing and scenery development, the Orbx tech team has also grown and continued to expand its development efforts. Orbx Central continues to be leading the way for Orbx for downloading and installing products, which Volanta is quickly growing its beta tester userbase as improvements and features are added. Anna reconfirmed that Volanta will be a free platform for everyone with new premium features to come in the future. More partners than ever are now part of OrbxDirect, with some big names (notably FlyTampa) now part of the service.

Despite lockdowns around the world, Orbx has continued to find ways to collaborate and work hard to bring products and updates out in a timely fashion. Anna speaks of the challenges in her post, but says that they are pretty used to working remotely now.

The biggest message to take away from the message is that the team at Orbx continues to grow significantly, but the goal first and foremost is to continue delivering quality airports and scenery to customers for all current flight simulator platforms. The team continue to work on new initiatives, new airports and new scenery products.

As always, stay tuned to FSElite where we’ll be sure to continue following any future developments, including the most recently announced Torp Airport.
