Orbx Provides Slight Update on openLC Africa and Asia

John Venema from Orbx has provided the community with a short, but sweet, update on openLC Africa and openLC Asia. Both products are designed to improve the landclass of their respected areas in a single product. Each of them follow on from the previous releases of openLC Europe, North America and South America.

openLC Africa has been a product that has been long delayed and today, some reasoning behind the delays have been brought to light. John said that the reason is two-fold; first reason is that Orbx allowed the developer of openLC Africa to focus on other projects first. The second reason, which is the primary driver for the delay, is the lack of data for Africa. According to John, development is about 75% complete with around 3.5 months left of development until it’s in beta testing for the team.

The team are hard at work creating manual landclass data, with all of the texture work now complete.

John has apologised for the delay and appreciates that they have not met the delivery timeframes previously mentioned.

The second openLC project, openLC Asia is also mentioned in his post. It is confirmed that Holger Sandmann is leading a second team to work on openLC Asia, which begins next week. The exciting news is that there will also be a range of photoreal area such as Mount Fuji (Japan) included with the package. John says that a release will hopefully happen before the end of the year.

John concluded his post by saying “this means you can count on two OLC regions in your hands well before Xmas.”

Who else is excited to see future previews of both openLC products?
