Perhaps unsurprisingly, but Orbx has confirmed that they have full intentions on supporting and developing for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The announcement was made by Orbx CEO, Anna, who has taken on the role since September 2019. During her introduction post on the Orbx forums, Anna gave the first details for how Orbx will be working with Microsoft to include products for the simulator.
After the announcement of Microsoft Flight Simulator releasing next month, Anna felt it was time to formally introduce herself to the flight simulation community. In her statement, she said that Orbx is “thrilled to see the new [Microsoft] Flight Simulator will launch in August“. She further comments saying that Orbx is very impressed with what they have seen of the next-gen simulator.
Whilst it seems obvious, up until this point, Orbx had yet to confirm they had intentions for developing for the simulator. However, this is now put to bed as Anna has confirmed that Orbx is indeed developing content for the new Flight Simulator. In addition, it is confirmed that Orbx will be moving away from supplying products exclusively via their own website and will also sell Microsoft Flight Simulator products through the Microsoft Marketplace. It was already confirmed by Microsoft, last year, that developers and publishers would have freedom to sell via their own channels as well as the Microsoft Marketplace.
Whilst this is still very fresh and exciting news, it is made clear that Orbx’s roadmap will continue to include high-quality content for X-Plane, Prepar3D and AeroFly FS.
The topic thread, over on Orbx’s forums, has been left open for any questions that you may have.
Orbx joins other third parties such as PMDG, Aerosoft and FSimStuidos who have all confirmed they are working on content for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator.
