After being in development for almost 3 years, Orbx BuildingsHD is finally almost in our grips. Posted on the Orbx forums, Aimee, Marketing Manager, gave a detailed look at what the product will bring to the simulator once it releases.
Developed primarily by Scott Armstrong, he and a few others have worked to create regionally accurate 4K texture and models that will replace all default autogen textures and models throughout the world. Everywhere from Europe, the Americas and beyond will see significant changes to the default autogen models. As they have been made to be region specific, you can expect various styles. colouring and more to be suited to the area of the world you’re flying in.
In total, over 900 texture sheets with over 3,800 building textures have been changed to accomplish this feat. Scott himself even travelled to many countries to take photographs to give the best possible experience back to the user. In addition, over 400 3D models have been added to the default 3D building library meaning old style default water towers and restaurant building have been replaced with ones that are significantly more detailed, but also very optimised for the user. All of these new buildings have been designed by Bill Womack.

No firm release date was mentioned, but it has been said that development is wrapping up and shouldn’t be too long now. Once it is available, Orbx BuildingsHD will cost AUD $34.95 (approx. USD $24.25/ €21.50 / £19.00).
