Orbx Announces Bolzano Airport for MSFS

Renowned scenery developer Orbx’s talented developer Andreas Hegi returns to the Italian alps, announcing the development of Bolzano Airport (LIPB) for MSFS.

Bolzano Airport (LIPB) is a small regional airport located in the heart of the Italian Alps near Bolzano, in South Tyrol. The airport was initially constructed back in 1926 featuring a 1,300m long runway, and even though the local government has spent significant amounts of money trying to attract airline traffic, the airport has had great difficulties in attracting lasting scheduled flights. Only recently, with the founding of SkyAlps in 2020, did the airport see the return of scheduled airline traffic, with SkyAlps operating a fleet of DeHavilland Dash 8-Q400 aircraft from the airport to numerous destinations across Europe.

In addition to providing passengers with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, the airport is a real challenge to pilots flying in and out of it. Pilots can choose between either following visually prescribed track or RNP approaches; however, regardless of the decision, all approaches feature very steep final descent angles of between 4.5 – 5.0 degrees.

Famed Orbx developer Andreas Hegi has now taken it upon himself to accurately recreate this challenging airport for MSFS users to discover. In addition to featuring a highly accurate and up-to-date recreation of the airport’s real-life counterpart, the product will come with realistic HD textures, a main terminal building with interior modeling, custom ortho, and custom static airplanes, including a DC-3 and numerous locally-based helicopters.

Though not yet released, an official product page has already been set up, providing prospective customers with more information about the airport and the product and featuring numerous preview images. We will, of course, keep you updated when the airport drops and becomes available for purchase.
