Yesterday, Orbx announced they would be bringing a new form of technology to Microsoft Flight Simulator that enhances the default mesh of specific regions. Today, they have released NZ Mesh for the simulator, in what we imagine will be the first of similar products for the future. Included in the pack is high-resolution mesh data that covers New Zealand.
The new mesh technology uses blended high-resolution DEM data, which is self-contained and makes no changes to the default mesh or any other default file. NZ mesh includes 10m resolution but future updates will bring LIDAR data, which has resolutions of up to 1m. This is a major upgrade from the original mesh, which is demonstrated in the comparison shots below.
This mesh product from Orbx also only take up 523MB of hard drive space, meaning it’s relatively light on storage, unlike other mesh products. Finally, Orbx says that NZ Mesh has “no noticeable performance impact” within the simulator.
You can buy Orbx’s NZ Mesh for Microsoft Flight Simulator now for $15.95 AUD (approximately US$12.45 | €10,27 | £8.80)
