Following MSFS, Northern Sky Studio has now released their rendition of the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport (ICAO: PASI) for X-Plane 12.
Sitka Gutierrez Airport (named after former mayor Rocky Gutierrez) is located in the western coastline of Baranof Island, a part of Alaska’s southeastern panhandle in the United States. It can be considered a small regional airport and has been around since 1942. It is home to a 7200 ft (2200m) runway at an elevation of 26 feet. The terrain around the airport is a showcase for the Alaskan wilderness, featuring steeply rising mountains and many islands, inlets and fjords.
Various types of traffic frequent the airport, such as general aviation, air taxi, military and commercial traffic. Some of the major airlines connecting the airport to the outside world are Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines. They provide services to cities like Juneau, Ketchikan and Seattle. This airport should allow you to practice some non-precision approaches as it does not have a “standard” ILS approach, but does offer an LDA and RNAV (GPS) approach for runway 11.
Northern Sky Studio are taking advantage of the latest X-Plane 12 technology by including weather effects, native jetways, 3D vegitation, as well as edited coastlines and water bodies. And for the visual aspects, the scenery features high-resolution ground and building textures, PBR materials and custom orthophotos with shading and occlusion effects on airport buildings.
The Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport scenery for X-Plane 12 can be purchased at Orbx for $22.10 AUD excluding VAT (full feature list also available on that page). The airport is also available for MSFS, as can be read here.
