Santiago Butnaru of Nimbus Simulations took to the stage at Flight Sim Expo in Las Vegas to showcase their full portfolio of aircraft and scenery for X-Plane including the Bell UH-1 helicopter, BN2 Islander and their popular Kennedy Airport in New York.
The main reason for Nimbus taking to the stage was to speak about what the next steps of the development team and their focusses for the foreseeable future. Starting with their ‘Pilot Challenge’ mission creator which gives you the ability to create missions within X-Plane on the fly. The tool gives you the ability to select, position and interact with aircraft, targets, effects like fire and smoke, to give an added level of excitement to virtual flying. The tool utilises an external User interface that bridges with X-Plane to make creation of these missions as easy and straight forward.
Boeing 707
Santiago teased and shocked the room with another announcement in the Nimbus hangar, by way of an old, smokey, gas guzzler, the Boeing 707. With a video trailer, the Boeing 707 was seen in metallic American Airline colours flying across the X-Plane sky within X-Plane 12. The video showcased the beautiful bird and the retro cockpit in a near complete condition, even though it was mentioned that it is still a work in progress. We were also treated to a wing view through moderate turbulance with epic wing flex.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport
The penultimate announcement was a little challenge for the crowd poised to find out the airport which will be released today, with a guessing game to the previews shown. With more screenshots showed, it was evident that the new airport for X-Plane 12 from Nimbus will be Charlotte Douglas International Airport, located in North Carolina in the United States. There were no further details on the release but we shall update you when we know more.
Finally, and as a moderately important footnote, Santiago announced that Nimbus Simulations will begin to develop for Microsoft Flight Simulator in the very near future.
