Almost a year and a half after announcing IL-2 Korea, Developer 1C Game Studios shared a new gameplay reveal video on YouTube. IL-2 Korea is the newest in the IL-2 combat flight simulator series. 1C Game Studios positions the IL-2 franchise as a balance between authentic simulation and accessibility.
The gameplay reveal video opens up with a hangar shot of a MIG-15 surrounded by interactive click spots that trigger different animations, like the canopy and speed brakes.
After that, the video dives into the aircraft configuration menu, which is stylized like a manila folder in a nod to the Korean War era. Each folder tab reveals a different menu, giving pilots the ability to select different aircraft configurations, learn the cockpit layout, view the flight manual, and even dive into historical data.
Then, the video transitions to some first-person footage of the Mig-15 cockpit. Notably, the pilot’s arms are visible inside, clad in a period-correct uniform. Following this, some exterior shots showcase the exterior model, environment lighting, and a flurry of contrails.
The remainder of the 2-minute video shows air-to-air combat where the Mig shoots down a bomber and engages in a close-range fight with an adversary propeller-powered aircraft. The combat footage is taken from a mission set themed around the Black Thursday event of the Korean War on April 12,1951.
1C Game Studios highlights that all the footage shown in the video represents a work in progress and isn’t indicative of the final quality users can expect upon release.
