New Details Emerge from the Vector ‘Project Griffin’ 787-9 for MSFS 2024

Following the recent announcement of its Boeing 787-9 ‘Project Griffin’, Vector has shared a detailed FAQ addressing some of the community’s most common questions. The aircraft was first revealed by FSElite last week and immediately caught the attention of the community. We can confirm that the product is being developed entirely from the ground up and will not require the default Asobo 787 in order to operate.

Development has been underway for more than a year, with a team of over 20 developers involved, including experienced flight simulation creators alongside active Boeing 787 pilots and ground crew. The team is primarily based in Europe, with contributors working globally. Vector confirmed the aircraft is being built using WASM to allow for deeper system complexity while maintaining performance on both PC and console platforms in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

The 787-9 will feature a Boeing-style EFB alongside a custom tablet for configuration and quality-of-life features. Planned options include automatic step climbs, pause at top of descent, HUD support, third-party integration such as GSX, and full VATSIM compatibility. Both GEnx and Rolls-Royce Trent engine variants will be available at launch, along with a core set of liveries and additional packs planned post-release.

Vector is also placing a strong focus on immersion, with an interactive cabin that allows seat class configuration and other cabin-level interactions. Physics and handling are being tuned to ensure the aircraft “feels alive,” responding naturally to weather, pilot inputs, and flight conditions. A comprehensive flight manual is planned, including guided scenarios to help users learn the aircraft from gate to gate.

The aircraft is being developed as a commercial payware product, with a target release window set for 2026. While the current focus remains firmly on the 787-9, Vector has said that they may talk about other variants in the future.

Vector plans to reveal further details through a series of upcoming development spotlights covering systems, modelling, and sound design.

We will learn more from Vector when they take the the FSElite Stage during FSWeekend, where they are scheduled to take part in a live stage Q&A interview with FSElite. Details on the exact date and time will follow later this week.
