Late last year, Navigraph partnered with 29 developers, community leaders and publishers to distribute their annual flight simulation survey. The results of the survey have now been made available for public viewing.
In total, 17,800 people responded to the survey, answering over 90 questions all related to flight simulation. The survey was designed to help developers, publishers and community members assist with the future of flight simulation. Questions ranged from how often do people fly, which aircraft they choose to fly and what their simulator platform of choice is. The survey was comprehensive and the results have managed to produce a 102-page document.
To accompany the Navigraph blog post, Magnus from the team has produced a video (above) highlight just some of the results from the survey. Here are a few standouts from the video:
- 17,800 people took the survey. 61% of respondents this year did not take last year’s survey.
- The biggest contributor partners to the survey was Navigraph, Orbx, FSElite, Carenado and Infinite Flight
- 98.3% of the respondents were male. 0.7% were female.
- The United States and the UK were the top two locations for flight simmers.
- 77% of respondents do not work in aviation.
- 10% of respondents have a Private Pilot License (PPL)
- Short/Medium jets, single-engine private aircraft and long haul airliners were the top three types of aircraft/flying
- Most people fly 5-10 hours per week, primarily IFR
- Lockheed Martin Prepar3D v4 had more frequent use according to respondents
- Laminar Research’s X-Plane 11 had a handful more of respondents who used the platform
- 56% of respondents will replace their current simulator with Microsoft Flight Simulator
- FSElite remains the “most frequently used media site”
