Navigraph has launched its Navigraph Academy – a free virtual PPL training platform for all to use. It was featured heavily on stage at FlightSimExpo 2025, and it’s exciting to see the new way to learn piloting skills is now here for all.
The first course available is a Virtual Private Pilot Licence (VPPL) programme, offering students a complete introduction to general aviation flying using a training structure similar to real-world PPL coursework.
The VPPL includes video lessons, written theory, quizzes and in-sim exercises designed to help students progress through core training milestones. Topics such as aircraft handling, basic aerodynamics, airspace, navigation and procedures are covered throughout the course. Each lesson also includes a practical component so users can immediately apply what they’ve learned inside Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Navigraph says the course has been developed with real pilots and instructors to ensure the content closely mirrors real aviation training, while still being accessible for newcomers. Progress is tracked within the platform, and simmers who complete the full programme will receive a digital certificate.
Perhaps most notably, the course is completely free and doesn’t require a Navigraph subscription — only a standard account. While the platform launches with the VPPL, Navigraph has indicated that more courses may follow in future as the Academy grows.
