Navigraph has announced the launch of Instrument Flying, the second course to arrive in Navigraph Academy. Spanning three video lessons packed with high-quality 3D graphics and visualisations, the course teaches flight simmers the core principles of instrument flying, how to build realistic IFR flight plans using Navigraph Charts, and the techniques needed to fly a stable ILS approach all the way down to minimums.
While the interactive in-sim training features and dedicated missions are exclusive to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the video lessons themselves can be viewed and enjoyed by flight simmers on any platform. Designed around real-world aviation procedures and adapted specifically for flight simulation, the course blends theory with practical learning, ultimately giving users the chance to earn a Navigraph Academy Instrument Qualification.
Practical IFR Training for Flight Simulation
Instrument Flying consists of three structured lessons covering core IFR concepts and workflows, including:
- Instrument scanning and aircraft control without outside visual references
- IFR route planning using Navigraph Charts and procedures
- Flying stable and accurate ILS approaches down to minimums
- The course focuses not only on how procedures are flown, but also why pilots use them

Built for Realistic Flight Simulation
The course has been developed in collaboration with experienced real-world pilots and instructors and is tailored specifically for flight simulation. Lessons are designed to make complex IFR concepts approachable, practical, and engaging for simmers at different experience levels.

Enhanced Academy Experience
Alongside the new course release, Navigraph Academy now also introduces an upgraded live-tracking and post-flight analytics experience. Users can follow flights live on the moving map, monitor training progress, and review detailed post-flight analysis after completing lessons.

Flexible Learning Path
Navigraph Academy allows users to explore lessons across courses without following a fixed progression path. Users can jump directly into Instrument Flying or combine lessons from different courses based on their own learning goals and experience level.
