Microsoft has released Sim Update 12 for their popular flight simulator. Sim Update 12 brings with it some new features, fixes, but most notably, WASM support for Xbox.
WASM support for Xbox will hopefully make it easier for developers to bring their add-ons to the simulator. WASM can for instance be used to make aircraft instruments function correctly. The lack of WASM was previously cited by several developers as a hurdle to make their add-ons available to the Xbox market. Most notably, the recently released AN-225 by Microsoft and iniBuilds uses WASM and is now available for Xbox users to enjoy with SU12.
But not only Xbox users need to rejoice, as there is plenty in Sim Update 12 for everyone to get happy about. Sim Update 12 sees a reduction in booting time of the simulator by making some optimisations to the ‘Checking for updates’ phase of the sim. There is a new Spotlight Events package available for free on the Marketplace, and there is a new assistance option to change the intensity of turbulence in the sim.
The full changelog of Sim Update 12 can be found over on the MSFS website. One thing that did not change is how sim updates are delivered to users, so the update will be automatically downloaded the next time you start up MSFS.
