Work continues on the 747-200 Classic for X-Plane by developer Felis.
We are excited to post a variety of work-in-progress previews of the project taken from a constantly growing thread on the X-Plane.org forums, where developer Felis has been posting screenshots and answering questions from excited users.
The modelling looks to be well on its way to completion, and judging by the pictures, the plane promises to relive the glory days of flight – where legroom was abundant, ash trays were plentiful, and drinks were served without needing to flash a credit card.
The thread mentions the possibility of a classic Air Force One variant that would allow for air-to-air refuelling, but none of the pictures reflect this yet.
With the developer working off FCOM and AMM documentation, it appears the plane will feature analogue gauges and a noticeable absence of high tech electronic screens and computers. Noted in an earlier FSElite article, Felis said that the systems planned for the 747 could include several NAV, VOR, ILS and DME receivers working independently of each other, a gross weight and CG computer that calculates numbers based on landing gear pressures (and not pulled from the X-Plane datarefs), and a CIVA navigation system.
While there is no release date yet, (and there is no mention of systems modelling or testing), the work in progress pictures indicate the project is moving swiftly.
