MM Simulations has expanded its portfolio across the Atlantic Ocean with the release of Appleton International Airport (KATW) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). Announced just a few weeks ago, the scenery marks a milestone for the developer as their very first project developed outside of Europe.
Located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of Appleton, Wisconsin, KATW is a frequent destination for business and leisure travellers with scheduled service by four major airlines, making it the third-busiest commercial airport in Wisconsin by passenger volume. Business aviation at KATW is abundant thanks to Gulfstream Aerospace’s large MRO (maintenance) facility at the airport. Each July, KATW also serves as a gateway to the nearby EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh. Not only does ATW experience high general aviation traffic as a reliever airport for the tens of thousands of aircraft that attend AirVenture, but it also hosts historical experience flights with aircraft like the B-29 superfortress ‘Doc’ and ‘FiFi’, and B-25 Mitchell ‘Berlin Express’, among others.

MM Simulations has brought KATW to life with features designed to take full advantage of the capabilities of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The scenery includes a highly detailed terminal building with a fully modeled interior, various custom airport buildings and hangars, and accurate ground textures and airport markings. According to the developer, performance optimization was at the forefront of the effort, stating, “Appleton offers a smooth experience without compromising visual quality, making it ideal for both short regional hops and airline operations.” While the scenery is currently compatible with both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, MM Simulations says that a fully-native MSFS 2024 version will be coming soon.

You can pick up MM Simulations’ Appleton International Airport for both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 from the Contrail Shop for €18.99 (excluding VAT). Availability on the Flight Simulator in-game Marketplace will be coming “very soon” according to the developer.
