MK Studios has released its new version of Rovaniemi Airport (EFRO) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024/2020. This v2 release comes with new features and modelling compared to the original release.
Situated around 10 kilometres from the city centre, Rovaniemi Airport is best known for its unique geographical position, with the Arctic Circle crossing the northern end of the runway. This alone makes EFRO a standout destination, but it is the operational environment that truly defines the airport. Long, harsh winters and challenging Arctic weather conditions create demanding scenarios for flight operations, particularly during the darker months of the year.
MK Studios’ rendition aims to capture both the character and complexity of the airport. The scenery features a highly detailed recreation of EFRO, with high-quality 3D models and textures throughout, alongside fully modelled terminal interiors. The airport layout reflects current real-world data, supported by accurate runway and airport elevation information.
Custom approach, runway, and taxiway lighting have been implemented to enhance immersion, particularly during low visibility and night operations. The package also includes bespoke taxiway signage, custom ground service equipment, and airport vehicle models, as well as functional jetways designed within real-world T-type limitations.
