Microsoft will release the first of 4 free “make good” aircraft next week for MSFS 2024, the Cessna 185F Skywagon.
The aircraft, part of a series intended to be released for free to all MSFS 2024 users as an apology for the difficulties encountered during the sim’s launch in November, was announced during the most recent developer livestream.
If you didn’t get a chance to watch the full stream, take a look at our recap here.
The aircraft, developed in partnership with Carenado, was originally intended to be released as a payware “Famous Flyer” series aircraft. However, following the troubled launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Jorg announced during the stream that all customers would be receiving 4 new aircraft for free. Confirmed along with the Skywagon was the Embraer CAP-4 Paulistinha, which will also be making an appearance at a future date in the sim. The make and model of the other 2 free aircraft are yet to be unveiled.

In a short trailer shown during the stream, we saw that the new aircraft is coming in several different landing configurations, with variants including wheels, skis and floats for water landings.
Customers who have bought a copy of MSFS 2024 can expect to see the Skywagon appearing in their sim next week, with the release to coincide with Sim Update 1.
