Microsoft Flight Simulator is heading Down Under once again. Microsoft and Asobo have officially revealed World Update 21: Australia, arriving May 5. The new update will bring a major refresh of the region with new handcrafted airports, upgraded terrain data, and dozens of fresh landmarks to explore.
Australia previously received attention in World Update 7 back in 2022, but this new release appears to be a much larger overhaul. According to the announcement during the Dev Live Q&A session, World Update 21 adds 30+ new areas of interest, plus improvements to around ten locations from the earlier update.

Simmers can also expect six newly enhanced airports across the country, giving bush flyers, airliner captains, and GA enthusiasts more polished destinations throughout the continent. Major metro areas such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, and Darwin are all receiving significant upgrades, with Melbourne alone reportedly gaining around 2,500 square kilometres of photogrammetry.
The free World Update is coming to both Microsoft Flight Simulator [2020] and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but the more recent title will get a few extra bits of content to take advantage of the different activity types. You can see it below.
For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024:
- 3 Discovery Flights
- 4 Precision Landings
- 2 Low Altitude Challenges
- 2 Rally Race Challenges
For Microsoft Flight Simulator [2020]:
- 3 Landing Challenges
- 1 Bush Trip
Local Legend 24 Revealed
Launching alongside the update is Local Legend 24, the Australian-built CAC Boomerang, developed by iniBuilds.

The aircraft holds historic significance as the only combat aircraft fully designed and manufactured in Australia during World War II, with around 250 units produced between 1942 and 1945.
Local Legend 24: CAC Boomerang is due to release alongside World Update 21: Australia on May 5th 2026.
Stay tuned for more from the Dev Q&A session.
