Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to Land on PS5 this December

MSFS 2024 makes its long-awaited debut on the PlayStation 5, complete with new features and new aircraft…

In an announcement authored by Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, published to the PlayStation blog, it was revealed that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be coming to the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. Developed by Asobo Studio in partnership with Microsoft Game Studios, the PlayStation 5 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024) will, for the first time on the PlayStation platform, enable flight sim enthusiasts to fly virtually anywhere, utilizing up to 125 aircraft at over 40,000 airports and 60,000 helipads worldwide.

Set for a public launch on December 8, customers who pre-order either the Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, or Aviator editions will receive early access on December 3. Additionally, the game will introduce a new career mode with a variety of missions, including firefighting, search and rescue, and aerial construction, providing players with challenging gameplay options in addition to free flight mode. A new Challenge League will feature landing challenges, rally races, and more, allowing players to compete against each other like never before.

According to the announcement, MSFS 2024 is designed to take full advantage of the PS5’s hardware, including the DualSense wireless controller, which will incorporate features like adaptive triggers, air traffic control (ATC) comms played through the controller speaker, gyro controls, and more. Additionally, PS VR2 support will be added via a free update sometime in 2026, bringing a more immersive flight experience and enhancing the simulator’s appeal to virtual reality enthusiasts.

Coinciding with MSFS 2024’s launch on the PS5 platform, two new aircraft are being introduced to the simulator. These are Boom Supersonic’s demonstrator, the XB-1, a civil supersonic jet, and the Northrop T-38A Talon, which will be available as a pre-order bonus aircraft upon release.

As with the PC and Xbox versions of MSFS 2024, PlayStation 5 pricing will be offered in different tiers, including Standard, Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, and Aviator editions. The difference between these tiers is the number of included aircraft and handcrafted airports, with each more expensive tier adding additional planes and more detailed, custom-built “upgraded” airports to the game. While the final list of aircraft associated with each tier will be confirmed before launch, this approach closely resembles the one Microsoft last year took with the PC release of MSFS 2024.

Pre-orders of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for the PS5 and PS5 Pro are now available and are priced as follows (all prices in USD):

A list of FAQs is available here, and PS5 users interested in participating in pre-release testing of MSFS 2024 on the PlayStation 5 platform are encouraged to sign up to participate in the Beta via the Microsoft Flight Simulator Insider Program.
