Although Sim Update 1 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has only been publically available for a short while, the team has already begun ‘flighting’ the next Sim Update for MSFS 2024. Sim Update 2 was dubbed as a large update, honing on fixing bugs, performance improvements, and bringing more stability to many aspects of the sim, therefore, plenty of testing needs to be done prior to a wider public release.
To assist the teams in ensuring it works as well as possible, a new opt-in Beta for Sim Update 2 is now available to anyone who wishes to experiment with the beta software. There are a few things of note that you should be aware of before you install the beta build, such as the included memory logging system which will likely have a negative impact on your overall performance. Such a system is in place to help developers identify bugs and issues.
In addition, Career and Challenge modes will have separate progress and leaderboards from the live build. Furthermore, any progress made will not carry over to the mainline build once Sim Update 2 leaves the ‘flighting’ period. Therefore, if those things are important to you, then you should not opt in for the beta.
The update itself carries with it a huge and significant number of changes. There is a large emphasis on virtual reality improvements, stability for the platform, and various improvements to the default aircraft. There is also some new functionality for developers to improve their products, along with changes to how backwards compatibility works within the simulator.
Instructions on how to join the beta build, along with the full and extensive changelog, can be found on the official forums.
As a stark reminder, this is beta software, and you should be using it at your own risk with the expectation that things may go wrong/not function as expected.
