Microsoft has announced that the In-Sim Marketplace is now available in MSFS 2024. The Marketplace allows simmers to purchase add-ons, such as aircraft and scenery products among others, to be purchased and be used in the simulator.
The Microsoft teams reports that “thousands of MSFS 2020 Marketplace items have been ported into MSFS 2024”, which will be available through your personal Library if you had previously purchased them. This content will not be enabled by default, with the exception of content sold by Asobo and Microsoft.
There are three different categories for MSFS 2020 content in MSFS 2024’s library:
- Not Creator Approved, meaning the developer of the content has deemed the content incompatible or has not informed Microsoft of its compatibility (yet), and thus it cannot be enabled through the In-Sim Marketplace
- Not Available, meaning the content has not been successfully ported to MSFS 2024 and thus is not available to be used
- No Tag, meaning the content is ready to be used in MSFS 2024 and marked as such by its creator.
Furthermore, a ‘MSFS 2020 Content‘ tag indicates that particular content was not developed natively for MSFS 2024. An ‘Upgrades‘ tag is given to content where its creator has decided that the upgrade to MSFS 2024 can be purchased in the Marketplace, while the 2020 compatible version will remain available to the user.
The availability of the In-Sim Marketplace does come with several caveats though: so far, the store does not feature any third-party content yet. Microsoft indicates they are working with developers to bring content into MSFS 2024. Rentals and Gifting are currently also not available, and planned for a release with Sim Update 2.
Also not included, or mentioned by Microsoft, are the ability to download content locally, and have first-party content be unencrypted. These features seemingly remain on the roadmap for now.
