Newcomer MB Simulations has released its first freeware scenery project for MSFS, this time focussing its efforts on realistically recreating the scenic Swiss mountain airfield of Thun (LSZW).
Thun Airfield is a small-scale grass runway general aviation airfield located close to the beautiful town of Thun in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland and is scenically nestled in the middle of the Swiss Alps. Interestingly, the airfield is located within a Swiss natural reserve and, as a result, is not allowed to construct any asphalt or concrete structures on its grounds, resulting in pilots having to take off and land on either one of two 560m grass runways. The airport is most well known within the aviation community for its pristine location in the middle of the Swiss Alps, providing departing and arriving aviators with unobstructed views of the tall peaks surrounding the city of Thun.
MB Simulations has now released its detail-rich and immersive representation of this highly iconic Swiss general aviation airfield for MSFS. The developer indicates that their rendition comes included with custom high-resolution ground textures, color corrected ortho-imagery with a resolution of up to 10cm/pixel, and custom runway and taxiway markings. In addition to all of this, the developers indicate the airfields’ main structures have been recreated in a detail-rich format, using the latest PBR technology. An enhanced pattern area has also been included, providing individuals performing pattern work with recognizable objects located around the field.
The scenery has been provided free of charge and can be obtained by downloading it from either the developers thresholdx forum page or the flightsim.to download page.
