Laminar Research Shares New Previews of X-Plane 11 Running Vulkan

Laminar Research has spent many years bringing the Vulkan engine to the world of X-Plane. We have seen various stages of development over the years, but today, the team wanted to share some new ones which represent something much closer to the final thing we’ll see compared to previous teasers.

In the Facebook post, Laminar Research said that “One of our big considerations in this port is maintaining compatibility for complex 3rd party aircraft.” This was then followed by confirmation of the ToLiss A319 working in Vulkan. The post said that the aircraft’s systems were being drawn by OpenGL, but the rest of the sim is running Vulkan in these screenshots. This was a flight from Melbourne to Sydney by developer Sidney.

The brief post came with some previews and concluded with Sidney commenting on his experience by saying “the flight was buttery smooth. No stutter at any point.”

Apologise; fixed the slight spelling error on Vulkan.
