Over on their blog, developer Laminar Research announces that Android users will soon, no longer be able to access the current multiplayer system on X-Plane mobile in lieu of new multiplayer system coming soon.
From March 31st, Google will be shutting down part of the Play Games Services that manages multiplayer for its mobile-based apps. The current version of X-Plane Mobile uses this service to run the multiplayer aspect of the simulator and therefore, Android users will no longer be able to use multiplayer within X-Plane Mobile.
Laminar Research had planned to have their new multiplayer in place before Google ceases to support multiplayer but the team mentioned that this will not be the case for some months yet. This will, of course, mean that Android users will be unable to play multiplayer X-Plane Mobile for this period.
The all-new multiplayer for X-Plane Mobile, for both Android and iOS users, will be able to deliver mass online multiplayer on a global scale which will be able to support thousands of players simultaneously.
