IRIS Simulations, known for its military aircraft, has taken to its Facebook Page with a single image to tease an upcoming project, presumably for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The image shows the variable exhaust nozzles and a portion of the vertical stabilizer of the aircraft in question. Commenters were quick to recognize the aircraft as the T-38C, which was later confirmed by IRIS Simulations themselves.
The T-38C “Talon II” is a two-seat, twinjet supersonic jet trainer originally produced from 1961 to 1972 by American defense company, Northrop (now, Northrup Grumman). The latest, upgraded version of the T-38, the T-38C, features modern avionics including a glass cockpit, digital flight controls, and a head-up display. The trainer sees extensive use in the United States Air Force Air Education and Training Command (AETC) where it serves in preparing pilots for front-line fighter and bomber aircraft such as the F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15C Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, B-1B Lancer, A-10 Thunderbolt, and F-22 Raptor.
The platform was the basis for the F-5 supersonic light fighter as well as the F-20 Tigershark, both single-seat, combat-capable versions of the T-38. Many commonalities exist between the trainer version and combat versions of the aircraft, though IRIS Simulations has stated that they currently do not have any plans to develop the combat versions of the jet. When ready, the T-38C Talon II will join IRIS Simulations’ other trainers under the “AirForce Series” of military aircraft; the Pilatus PC-21 and Beechcraft T-6 Texan II.

Of course, with such an early preview, no information about features, release date, or compatibility with MSFS2024 has been provided. FSElite will do our best to keep you updated as details emerge.
