iniBuilds has released a new major update for its A300-600R on Microsoft Flight Simulator. This is a sizeable update that has been worked on in collaboration with a type-rated pilot who wanted to see the plane be the very best it could be. iniBuilds shared a number of the significant changes in a new blog post.
Starting with one of the biggest improvements with this new update is performance. iniBuilds say that thanks to re-writing a bunch of code and implementing many more optimisations, they have been able to achieve a 15% overall performance improvement. This varies from machine to machine, but it has been overall said that the plane runs smoother than the previous build.
Another significant improvement came from LNAV/VNAV guidance modes. The team used ARNIC424 standards, Airbus Lateral and Vertical Guidance documents, FMGS FCOM extracts and hundreds of hours of testing by real-world pilots to help overhaul this complex component. Various examples, as shown below, highlight the huge improvement there is in how the aircraft flies HOLD behaviour.



To further quote iniBuilds, they said that “Overall improvements can be seen across LNAV with the aircraft with turn anticipation correctly calculated with VNAV predictions, intercepting radial in and out paths and greater track accuracy. VNAV now respects speed and altitude constraints more consistently which assists the LNAV handling overall”
Sound and art have also continued to be improved throughout with a number of improvements. Another cool new feature is the ability to change the background on the EFB. It’s a small, but quirky aside that can add a bit more personality to your aircraft.

To help make these changes, iniBuilds used the input from Jeremey to really help build and flesh out some of the more quirky aspects of the plane.
Jeremey, with 10-years experience on the aircraft, wanted to provide iniBuilds as much feedback as possible. He said, “I was interested in giving the IniBuilds A300-600 a real test. It was great to see how far the team had come, even when there was not much info and experience available as the aeroplane is nowadays practically phased out.” He continued, “I felt there were still some things which needed improvement. Finally, after months of tests and long nights of communication within the team, the A300 is at a stage where it really mirrors the flying experience of the real bird.”
He even offered some advice: “My advice, don’t trust the FMS during the descent, an overshoot or undershoot is highly likely, and don’t depend on forecasts descent winds.. She will make her own plan so make sure you are in control!”
