iniBuilds has shared another development update on its upcoming rendition of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (EGGP) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, offering a closer look at the development process behind the project and introducing two members of the scenery team currently working on the airport.
Following earlier updates featuring insights from team leads Greg and George, this latest post highlights the work of developers Kris and Ilias. Both have been heavily involved in shaping the airport environment, focusing on areas such as terrain modelling, ground layouts, and the creation of custom assets designed to capture the distinctive character of Liverpool Airport.

According to the team, the development of Liverpool Airport has been progressing steadily behind the scenes. Much of the effort has gone into building a highly accurate base environment using real-world geospatial data and aviation references to ensure the airport layout closely matches its real-world counterpart.

Ilias explained that his development workflow begins with gathering high-resolution terrain and imagery data from sources including LiDAR datasets, DEM providers, and orthophoto services. These datasets are then processed using GIS tools such as QGIS, Global Mapper, and GDAL to generate accurate terrain models, heightmaps, and reference layers. Official airport charts, satellite imagery, and aviation databases are also used to correctly position runways, taxiways, parking stands, and ground markings.
While no release date has been announced yet, the latest update suggests development is continuing steadily, with more previews and insights expected as the project progresses. We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
