Imaginesim DFW Nears Release, Gets Video Preview

Imaginesim recently took to their Facebook page to announce that the final testing of their version of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (KDFW) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 has been completed, with release coming “not too long now.” According to the developer’s recent post, “Testing was completed and signed-off a couple of weeks ago, now we’re waiting on our partners, our installer team and our design contributor’s to give us their green lights for go.

Building up to the release, Henrik Isaksen (PilotHenrik on YouTube) has given us a new video overview of Imaginesim’s DFW. Based on an early-access version of the scenery and shot using MSFS 2020, the video features numerous cinematic shots around the airport’s expansive runways and taxiways, five terminals, maintenance, and cargo facilities.

In the video, we can see the terminal interiors, on-site airport hotels, ground service equipment, and other airport static elements that Imaginesim has included in the scenery. However, missing from the video are the animated Skylink trains that connect DFW’s terminals and parking areas. We don’t yet know if this feature will be included in the release version. In December, Imaginesim sought a 3D animator to fill in for their animation expert who was temporarily out of commission. At the time, Imaginesim stated that they hoped to include the Skylink trains in the release version but would be open to adding the animations post-release if needed. We’ll have to wait until the official release to see how things shake out.

Imaginesim began offering the ability to pre-order their DFW scenery for £24.99 in January and ran the offer until March 27. The developer stated that DFW pre-orders were “hugely popular” and “something we’ll be considering again with future releases,” noting that they had to add extra bandwidth to their web servers to handle the demand. Early access to download the scenery was subsequently made available to those who pre-ordered on March 27.

Imaginesim’s DFW has been no small undertaking. The airport is the second-largest airport by land area and the second-busiest airport in terms of passenger volume in the United States. DFW is also the home and primary hub for the major US airline, American Airlines. As of Spring 2025, the airport provides service to 264 destinations through 31 different scheduled passenger airlines.

Features:

  • Seven runways across a vast 17,000-acre airport area.
  • Five highly detailed terminals (and a construction site for a sixth).
  • Extensive cargo operator facilities.
  • Fantastic performance with comprehensive optimization.
  • High definition building texturing.
  • Fluid usage, even with complex airliner cockpits and high density AI coverage.
  • Custom SafeGateTM Visual Docking Guidance (VDGS).
  • Interactive bespoke jetways and animations.
  • Instantaneous scenery cache loading and low simulator impact.
  • Utilizes Imaginesim’s bespoke Operations Center configuration GUI.

The release date and final pricing for Imaginesim’s DFW have not yet been revealed. However, stay tuned to FSElite as more details emerge.
