Golden Key Studios, or “GKS” as the developer is known in the MSFS Marketplace, has recently released their rendition of the MiG-25PD for MSFS2020. This is the first time that we cover a product from GKS on FSElite, but you may already know them from their MiG-21 “Fishbed” or their F-111E “Aardvark”, both of which have good ratings in the MSFS Marketplace.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-25 “Foxbat” is a Soviet era interceptor, which first took to the skies in 1964. Although the design is already quite old, 28 are still in active service under the Syrian Air Force, including 16 of the PD variant. This variant, which is the one GKS has recreated for the sim, is an improved single-seat all-weather version, of which 104 were produced between 1978 and 1984. A total of 1186 MiG-25’s of different variants were produced, until production of the aircraft ceased entirely in 1984. It got superseded by the MiG-31 “Foxhound”.
The MiG-25PD by GKS features a highly detailed model with 4K PBR textures. It’ll also have highly detailed afterburner and exhaust effects and custom animations. The cockpit has been designed from the ground up and faithfully represents all avionics and instruments to their fullest extent, a list of which can be found on the developer’s website. The cockpit will also support virtual reality. The developer mentions that the cockpit has been developed in both English and original Russian, which can be toggled via an option’s menu. In the YouTube Tutorial created by GKS, we can also see the aircraft drop it’s external fuel tanks.
According to GKS, “The flight model is heavily component-based, and simulates aerodynamic forces acting upon each component of the aircraft in real-time”. The flight model has been built over the course of a few years and should provide an authentic experience of flying the MiG-25, under all possible flight conditions.
