Golden Age Simulations has been hard at work on the “Super Stearman”, the upgraded version of their popular Boeing Stearman Model 75 addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator. In the 15-minute video posted to the developer’s YouTube channel, Golden Age Simulations shows off several of the features of the Super Stearman and takes us on a short flight including aircraft configuration, startup procedures, cruise, and shutdown.
Super Stearman was the name given to modified versions of the iconic Stearman biplane that were equipped with more powerful engines capable of delivering up to 650 horsepower compared to the standard 220-240 horsepower. While the standard Stearman was primarily used as a military primary trainer, the Super Stearman is a high-performance aircraft designed for airshows and aerobatics.
Of particular interest in the video is the preview of the clickable preflight walkaround option via the aircraft’s custom management panel. This allows users to click various spots in a top-down view of the aircraft and not only accomplish preflight checklist items such as removing chocks and covers, but to also configure options on the aircraft itself such as adding/removing the propeller spinner, cowling, wheel pants, and even choosing to display a wing-walker.

According to Golden Age Simulations: “All the major coding for model behaviors is about complete. We are now in the process of reviewing all texture files and liveries.” The aircraft also includes a Wwise sound engine by SimAcoustics and textures by renowned texture artist Jan Kees Blom. Golden Age Simulations says that they’re aiming for a release in late September or early October of this year. It is unclear if the upcoming Super Stearman will be available as a stand-alone package (like the FSX & P3D versions of the aircraft) or if Golden Age Simulations’ Stearman Model 75 will be required as a base package.

While waiting for the Super Stearman, if you don’t yet have Golden Age Simulations’ Stearman Model 75, it is available from the MSFS Marketplace or from the developer’s website for $22.50 (excluding taxes).
