A few weeks ago, we announced a new product for the world of X-Plane called Global Forests. The concept is to take trees and vegetation in the world of X-Plane and make it much more realistic and varied than the default sim allows. The original package was released by developer GeoReality Design focused on European trees.
The next volume, we have been told, will focus on the US and Canada, but to give users a taste of what’s to come, the region of Alaska has been released as freeware. From the screenshots below, you can see the impact Global Forests has on your X-Plane installation.
The product itself sees the whole earth has been scanned and analysed to produce an accurate natural forest tree representation (not manually planted trees). The trees are then installed into X-Plane 11, re-creating the world’s forests in terms of variation, tree density, tree type, and tree height.
You can download the Alaska region for free via the X-Plane.org forums.
If you’re interested, you can pick up the European edition here for $11.00.
