A brand new historic aircraft will be coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator very soon. Introducing the first of many “local legends,” the Junkers JU-52 is a German-designed aircraft that first flew in 1930.
The trailer released during Microsoft’s Gamescom 2021 Xbox presentation showed the aircraft in action. We can see that the plane will come equipped with a detailed exterior model and a fully working cockpit with dials, and a virtual cabin. The aircraft will also come with great looking animations and custom sounds.
The Junker JU-52 was flown by 12 airlines and was to carry both passengers and freight. As time went on, the aircraft saw a large role in the military, deploying troops and cargo during the Second World War. It was also briefly used as a medium bomber. However, it is today maintained for aviation displays and aerial sightseeing.
Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, said the team has worked with pilots and organisations that work to keep the aircraft type maintained at various heritage sites and museums in order to create the plane for the simulator. As with other downloadable aircraft products, Jorg said the pricing will be as “affordable as possible” when it releases in early September.
This is the first of many upcoming local legends currently in development.
The Junkers JU-52 will be released alongside World Update 6 on September 7th 2021 via the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace. We’ll keep you updated on the Junkers JU-52 when we learn more.
Update 25th Aug 2021 @ 07:45z – The price of the Junker JU-52 is $14.99 as confirmed by the official trailer YouTube page.
