Back in November, FlyTampa teased a new ‘Area 51’ project for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Now, the team has teased a new website and provided FSElite with more details on the project itself.
The new add-on will recreate the Groom Lake installation and surrounding area with a huge amount of focus on the level of detail. It will recreate the Air Force facility, Homey Airport (KXTA). Expect to find the original U2 and A 12 hangars, modern radar towers, and all sorts of infrastructure recreated. The coverage includes the whole stretch of the Extraterrestrial Highway and the broader Nevada Test and Training Range environment recreated to a high standard of visual and contextual accuracy.
According to the teaser website, you will be able to fly around the area and drive. FlyTampa has been working with the AAA game art studio, SIERRA DIVISION, in order to create an “atmospheric” and immersive experience to a new level of detail. The teaser screenshots provided reflect this work and attention to detail.

The team promises more details soon, but the new FlyBack project looks to come with plenty of secrets to discover and challenges to complete. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this and report back.
