FlyingIron Simulations Releases Spitfire L.F Mk IXc for MSFS

Renowned developer, FlyingIron Simulations, brings yet another fighter to our simulator skies. They introduce the first detailed warbird for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the iconic Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX. Designed to be utilized during World War II by the Royal Air Force, the Spitfire quickly became one of the fastest and most widely used aircraft in its class. The popularity of the Spitfire grew over the Hawker Hurricane due to its capability of flying as a high-performance interceptor. Since its original design, the aircraft has seen numerous variants as it has evolved to a much faster and more furious warbird.

FlyingIron Simulations is known for their accurately rendered and true-to-life warbirds. The Spitfire variant that they have released is the Mk IXc. This particular variant looks no different than its cousins; however, they house a powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 66/70 supercharged V12 engine, capable of producing 1720hp. A key feature of the Spitfire is its elliptical wing design. The elliptical shape allows the aircraft to produce lift with a decrease in induced drag. The developer introduces the Mk IXc along with the “clipped wing” versions which provide more roll authority and a slight increase in airspeed.

On an interesting note, the Spitfire was recorded by taking part in the highest altitude combat during WWII, when it intercepted a bomber at 43,000 feet over Southampton. In addition, another recorded achievement for the aircraft was that it was the first Allied fighter to shoot down a Me 262 Jet, a German fighter jet.

On their website, the developer states, “Our aircraft are developed with love, care, and a tremendous amount of research to ensure we create a product that looks, flies, and sounds like its real-life counterpart.” That said, the team has reached its greatest achievement in sound design thus far. All the sounds you hear in the aircraft have been professionally recorded from a real Spitfire Mk IX, making this warbird very realistic.

In addition, the complex and detailed flight modelling tools supplied by the simulator have helped the team in creating an aircraft that flies true-to-life with a very accurate flight model. Realism doesn’t stop there though; a highly detailed cockpit awaits you to soar the skies. The cockpit is developed to accurately mirror the functionality of it. For example, the user must follow appropriate procedures to start up and fly this aircraft. Lastly, exceeding certain flight limitations such as airspeed and load factors, can have an effect on the aircraft and cause failures.

You can purchase the FlyingIron Spitfire L.F Mk IXc for MSFS through their website for $35.00 AUD.
