FlyByWire Simulations has updated its freeware Airbus A380X for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024.
This update primarily focuses on behind-the-scenes refinements aimed at long-term performance gains rather than a single major overhaul. Minor model optimisations have been introduced to reduce draw calls, while several non-critical textures have been resized to lighten the aircraft’s overall footprint. The team mentioned that these changes should have no impact on visual fidelity, helping the A380X remain as detailed and impressive as ever.
A new feature in this update is the addition of a click spot to hide the EFB, with the Onboard Information Terminal (OIT) becoming increasingly capable, some pilots may prefer to stow the EFB during certain phases of flight to improve visibility. The click spot sits in a convenient temporary location for now, though its placement may evolve as cockpit lighting systems continue development. The team is actively seeking community feedback on how useful this feature is in practice.
Finally, the developers remind users that the FLT OPS functionality on the OITs requires powering the respective laptops; otherwise, the system will display “not available.” The required switches are highlighted in the accompanying screenshots.
