Fly2High Shares Houston Hobby Airport Previews Ahead of Release

Developer Fly2High recently took to its Facebook page to share new photo and video previews of their upcoming Houston Hobby Airport scenery for MSFS 2024.

William P. Hobby Airport (KHOU/HOU), more commonly known as Houston Hobby Airport, is Houston’s oldest commercial airport and a major operating base for Texas-based Southwest Airlines. The airport traces its roots back to 1927, when it began operations as a private landing field. By the 1930s, the airport had begun offering commercial service and received a number of improvements under the oversight of famed aviator Howard Hughes. However, Hobby’s plans for continued growth came to screeching halt in 1969 with the opening of Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The airport was even slated for closure, but Southwest Airlines’ entry into the market in the 1970s provided Hobby with a new lifeline. To this day, Southwest remains the dominant carrier at the airport.

First revealed at the end of August, Fly2High’s Houston Hobby Airport scenery is nearing the finish line, with the developer stating in its latest Facebook post that the scenery is expected to be released next week. From the beginning, Fly2High has emphasized that Hobby “is going to feel different” compared to its previous airport sceneries. In earlier video previews, the developer showed off the Ramp Information Display System (RIDS) that Southwest Airlines has at many of their bases to provide pilots with updates on their flights progress to pushback.

In its latest round of previews, Fly2High showed off the detailed airport entrance, realistic terminal modeling, and the various cars and ground clutter surrounding the airport. A subsequent Instagram Reel provided an up-close look at the ramp area and some of the modeled terminal interiors.

With another North American Fly2High project nearing completion, it will not be long before flight simmers can experience the airport that played a vital role in Southwest Airlines’ growth.
