Aspen Airport is situated within Pitkin County, just three nautical miles from the heart of Aspen, Colorado. The airport started life as a public gravel strip in 1946 and was primarily used by the Aspen Institute. Today, the original gravel runway is paved and sits at over 8,000ft long allowing the airport to be the busiest ski resort airport in North America during the winter months. Major carriers such as Delta Connection, American Eagle and United Express operate flights to destinations such as Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Although a busy seasonal airport, there are restrictions with operations due to the size of the airfield and local legislation that prohibits movements of aircraft with wingspans larger than 29 metres, therefore typical aircraft found operating out of Aspen are the CRJ-700 and Embraer E-Jets family. Most aircraft are required to operate South to North and due to wind direction and strength, may lead to occasional delays and weight restrictions offering an interesting challenge for virtual and real world pilots.

Fly2High have recreated this bustling hub which stands at nearly 8,000ft ASL, to include highly detailed models of airport buildings and surrounding areas with hand placed objects, bespoke ground textures of the runway, apron, paths and roads as well as accurately placed dynamic airport lighting.
