Fly the Maddog X Updated, MD-83/88 for MSFS Released

Leonardo Software House (LSH) took to their forums to announce updates to their Fly the Maddog X for MSFS and P3D v4/5 as well as introduce the MD-83 and MD-88 for MSFS. The updates for MSFS and P3D v4/5 provide bug fixes and quality-of-life enhancements to both products including fixes to the FMS and lateral navigation accuracy, better handling of SimBrief imports, visual model and effects fixes. The updates are free to existing Fly the Maddog X owners and installers are available from Simmarket. A full changelog is below:

MSFS Edition Updates:

  • Fixed issue when changing APPROACH while already navigating the STAR;
  • Fixed issue in W&B EFB app resetting changes when reopening app (if SimBrief/PFPX option not set);
  • Fixed issue in MDClient crashing to desktop when printing subsequent ACARS messages;
  • Fixed approximations issues for pax weight when importing from SimBrief using lbs units;
  • Improved engine smoke effect;
  • Improved engine fire effect;
  • Fixed wrong UV mapping of lower aft antenna;
  • Added option to force ‘norm to’ in EFB perf app (so it shows the same values as the speed card);
  • Changed jetway setup to have it properly set on default scenery. Many add-on sceneries do not comply with ASOBO req, and the result is poor there;
  • The elevator will always be displaced when resting or taxing very slowly on a windy day, even after the end of the first flight;
  • Added compatibility for MD-83/-88 extension pack;
  • Added volume settings for BG music in Load Manager;
  • When realistic mode is enabled, ACARS LOAD SHEET can have small random variation with respect to OFP;
  • Updated Fly the Maddog X Quick Guide MSFS 2020;
  • Updated Fly the Maddog X User Manual MSFS 2020.

Prepar3D Edition Updates

  • Fixed issue when changing APPROACH while already navigating the STAR;
  • Fixed issue in FMS idle minimum EPR settings when airfoil A/I on;
  • Fixed approximations issues for pax weight when importing from SimBrief using lbs units;
  • Improved LNAV precision during the approach phase;
  • Selecting a runway as arrival on FMS DEP/ARR page will now create an FAXXX waypoint (where XXX is the runway designator) 8NM before rwy threshold.

MD-83 and MD-88 Expansion for MSFS Released

Fly the Maddog X Updated, MD-83/88 for MSFS Released

Maddog fans will also be excited to learn that concurrent with the Fly the Maddog X updates for MSFS and P3D, LSH has also released the MD-83 and MD-88 expansion for MSFS. The MD-83 first flew in December 1984 and featured an increased MTOW, more powerful JT8D-219 engines, and an increased fuel capacity compared to the MD-82. Launched on January 23, 1986, the MD-88 was the last variant of the series and saw many updates to the original MD-80-series design. The launch customer, and perhaps the most well-known MD-88 operator was Atlanta, Georgia-based Delta Air Lines which operated 120 of the single-aisle airliners up until its retirement in June 2020.

MD-83 and MD-88 for MSFS Features

  • JT8D-219 engines with specific and accurate flight dynamics.
  • Additional fuel tanks and Aux Fuel Pump system for the MD-83, with an accurate burning schedule.
  • Automatic fuel balance system.
  • Updated load manager tool for fuel/load and route planning.
  • Updated MD-83 and MD-88 virtual cockpit, with specific MD-83 and MD-88 systems, instruments, and switches.

Further, LSH indicated that as a thanks to the community, the MD-83 and MD-88 expansion models would be available FREE of charge for MSFS users who already own the MD-83/88 expansion for P3D. The MD-83/88 expansion for MSFS can be purchased separately from Simmarket for €25. Fly the Maddog X for MSFS must be installed and updated to the latest version before purchasing and installing the MD-83/88 expansion pack. If you don’t already own the Fly the Maddog X for MSFS, you can buy it from SIMMARKET for €75.00
