Leonardo Software House has released the long-awaited native Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 version of Fly the Maddog: 20th Anniversary Edition, giving existing owners a free upgrade while also delivering a host of improvements to the MSFS 2020 version. The release marks the culmination of months of development following the team’s earlier previews, with the aircraft now taking full advantage of Microsoft’s latest simulator.
The native MSFS 2024 edition is available free of charge to all existing owners of the 20th Anniversary Edition, with no additional purchase required. Leonardo has also expanded availability beyond SimMarket, with the aircraft now available to purchase through Contrail, providing customers with an additional storefront and download platform.
While the headline feature is native MSFS 2024 compatibility, Leonardo has ensured that MSFS 2020 users aren’t being left behind. Almost every improvement made during development has also been incorporated into the MSFS 2020 version, meaning both simulators now share the same feature set and fixes wherever technically possible.
The update introduces native support for the MSFS 2024 SDK alongside a wide range of refinements across the aircraft. These include improved rendering, updated systems, performance optimisations, numerous bug fixes, and continued refinements to the aircraft’s already highly regarded systems simulation. Existing liveries remain compatible, although Leonardo has also published new native MSFS 2024 paint kits and repaints for users making the transition.
Leonardo has also confirmed that development of the Maddog continues beyond this release. Work is already underway on future updates and enhancements, with the team thanking the community for its patience and ongoing feedback throughout the lengthy native conversion process.
