Today Flight 1 has released their Cessna 162 SkyCatcher add on for Free. Note it is still licensed software so you may not redistribute it! But you can now download it for free if you wish. The download process is a bit abnormal compared to other freeware downloads. You must download a Key, then an installer form a page that may make you think your purchasing it. But don’t worry, just follow the instructions listed by Flight 1 one This Page to get the aircraft for free. The add on works in all versions of FSX including the Steam edition. Plus Prepar3D V3.
A bit of History on the Airplane
The Cessna 162 SkyCatcher itself is a 2 seat, side by side Light sport Aircraft. The plane was produced by Cessna between December of 2009, and December 2013. 1200 of the aircraft were ordered, but only 192 were ever sold. Another 80 were constructed. They were used parts until December of 2016 when they were scrapped. One of the reasons the aircraft may have failed, Is because of some controversy surrounding its production. In November 2007 Cessna announced that the aircraft would be constructed in the People’s Republic of China. Cessna cited a lack of Plant capacity in the US as a reason for this. But also admitted that $71,000 savings in production as another reason. This decision was received with a high degree of negativity among the customers of the aircraft, As well as its potential customers.
The Cessna 162 SkyCatcher is made of Aluminum, but features a Fiberglass cowling. The plane is designed for VFR flight only. In both day and night. It features the Garmin G300 Glass avionics suite. it is fitted with a Continental O-200D flat-four engine, which produces 100 hp. More aircraft specs can be viewed below.
