After a short marketing period, and a cheesy launch trailer earlier today, Fenix Simulations has released its anticipated A319/A321 Expansion Pack for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Both the Airbus A319 and the Airbus A321 (both CEO models) are in a single expansion pack as an add-on for their A320 that launched a few years ago.
By far the longest of the A320 family is the Airbus A321, entering service in 1994. The stretched fuselage means it can carry up to 236 passengers and has a maximum take-off weight of 93.5t. It can fly up to 3,200 nmi at a cruising speed of Mach 0.78. It proved hugely popular for airlines wanting capacity and fuel efficiency of the Airbus range of planes. Because it shares the same type rating as the rest of the A320 family, it can be found with a huge number of airlines that deploy a number of the type amongst others in the narrow-body fleet.
The A319 is one of the smaller variants of the Airbus A320 family, with a maximum passenger capacity of 156. It entered service in 1996 and is primarily used by easyJet, American Airlines and Delta. Over 1,500 of the type are in service, as it has proved popular for missions that have shorter runways or require less capacity for more rural airports.
As with their A320 series, Fenix has taken great care to ensure that these aircraft are as rich in detail as possible. As already explained in previous posts, the A319/A321 are not just models with a few weight adjustment tweaks, these are fully modelled with all their intricacies, differences, and nuances that make them unique aircraft. Expect accurate sounds, flight dynamics and system changes that reflect these aircraft’s real-world properties.
Not only has the external model been recreated faithfully, but you will find internal modelling has been made to represent the different aircraft, too. This includes different configurations depending on the livery applied, meaning you could have a 2-class cabin or for the A319, use a dual overwing exit and visually see this inside. The unique design of the A321 has also been modelled accurately, along with realistic drag and lift properties.
Both the A319 and the A321 Expansion package includes both CFM and IAE engine variants, with Sharklet versions coming later on as a free update. You will also find the EFB is complete with specific performance calculators, an A321-specific fuel system, and also an optional A321 noise reduction package with modified exhaust.
You can get the Fenix Simulations A319/A321 Expansion Pack from their store for £39.99. You can also pick up the complete bundle which includes the A319, A320, and A321 for a single price of £79.99. Once downloaded, you will be able to access hundreds of liveries completely free of charge.
