Grinnelli Designs has shared a new development update and previews on its upcoming F-100D Super Sabre module for Digital Combat Simulator, confirming that the aircraft is now nearing release.
The F-100D holds a notable place in aviation history as the first USAF fighter capable of sustained supersonic level flight. It also played a significant role during the Vietnam War, where it was deployed in both fighter and ground-attack roles. With development milestones now largely complete, the aircraft is entering its final preparation stages ahead of release.
Art development is said to be nearly finished, with the team utilising high-fidelity photogrammetry scans of a real-world airframe to ensure accuracy across the model. This has enabled precise detailing across surface features such as panel lines and rivets. A range of historically accurate liveries will be included, covering both USAF training squadrons and combat operations from the Vietnam era.

On the systems side, all core functionality is now in place, with current efforts focused on refinement. Flight model tuning is in its final phase, with Grinnelli Designs working alongside Eagle Dynamics to capture the aircraft’s distinct handling characteristics. This includes its strong high-speed performance, balanced against more challenging behaviour at lower speeds.
The damage model is also being finalised to support a more immersive combat experience, while audio work continues with the integration of recordings taken from a real F-100. The distinctive sound of the J57 engine is expected to feature prominently, both from within the cockpit and through pilot helmet audio simulation.
While no release date has been confirmed, the team has indicated that preparations are well underway as the F-100D Super Sabre moves closer to release.
