Flight simulation is just a small part of the wider aviation world, and whilst our little community continues to grow, there are still plenty of people who love all things aviation who don’t know what a flight sim is. Even at airshows and other experiences like EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and SUN ‘n FUN, there are thousands of people wondering around the event looking at planes and other related things with very little clue on what flight simulation is. This is why having a flight simulation presence at such events is so incredibly important.
Fortunately, with support from Flight Simulation Association (FSA), and others, flight simulation will be represented at this year’s SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo. In fact, this isn’t the first year FSA took on the role and it has already proven to be very popular. Last year, over 1,000 instructor-led demo sessions took place at the flight simulation area of the airshow. 20 different flight simulators were set up all with the goal in helping people better understand how flight simulation is best used at home for all kinds of scenarios. These demo stations ran a mix of Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, and DCS, all providing unique experiences that also included live ATC coverage from PilotEdge.
Realistic Experiences Using Pimax VR Headsets
As with any in-person show, these events are perfect for trying out new hardware. This could be the newest flight simulator control set-up, new PCs and of course, virtual reality headsets. For SUN ‘n FUN, the flight simulation centre has partnered with Pimax to give people there a chance to go hands-on with their VR headsets.

We have reviewed multiple Pimax headsets in the past and believe that they are excellent headsets that provide one of the clearest and sharpest images possible for virtual reality in flight simulation. This includes both their Pimax Crystal Light and Crystal Super, both of which are going to be available to try at the show.
The Pimax Crystal Light offers an impressive 2880px x 2880px resolution in each eye with a 120hz refresh rate display. The field of view is also large enough for most situations, offering the following spec: DFOV 130°, HFOV 115°, VFOV 105°. On the other hand, the Pimax Crystal Super offers an even more impressive spec, with 3840 x 3840 resolution per eye and use of an ultra-clear, optional optical engine for improved clarity. It also comes with local dimming delivers vibrant, true-to-life colors, which is ideal when flying in flight simulator.

Virtual Reality has certainly been seen by some as a revolution when it comes to flying in a simulator, but it’s not until you experience it first-hand you will know if it’s for you or not. This is just one of the reasons why Pimax is at the show and showcasing their hardware alongside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. It will give attendees a great opportunity to test out the hardware and ask questions to the people who make it. Whatsmore, there will be exclusive discounts and deals at the show for anyone looking to buy one.
If you are there, you can book your slot right now to go hands-on.
Pimax has also partnered with Moza in order to provide a full simulation rig by using Moza hardware with the VR headset set-up. We’ll be sure to take pictures and hear what attendees had to say about the set-up when we visit SUN ‘n FUN this week.
If you are interested in Pimax VR headsets device, you can purchase the Crystal Light One Year Anniversary Edition directly and save 3% by using code ‘FSE’ at the checkout.
More Coverage from SUN ‘n FUN
As flight simulation continues to grow as a hobby, it’s more important then ever to find new ways to engage with the future generation of flight simmers. This is why, with thanks to FSA, we’re attending this year’s SUN ‘n FUN and spending time at the flight sim area to provide our expertise and knowledge at the flight sim stations.
We will be speaking to people, asking them what they want to learn about the hobby, how sites like us can support them, and also providing education on how to get started with their own flight simulation path.
Expect more from FSElite in the coming days when we’re at SUN ‘n FUN on April 2nd. If you’re around, please do come and say hello!
